Unlike Hans Kelsen, Erich Kaufmann (1880-1972) is not a household name in juridico-philosophical circles. Kaufmann was, however, a prominent figure in the legal community in Wilhelmine and Weimar Germany, and his work in constitutional law and public international law was well known in his own day.2
